Halloween is one of the most popular holidays of the year. Many people look forward to dressing up, getting candy or going to a spectacular Halloween bash. When people go out on Halloween, music is what gets people into the spirit, whether it’s throwbacks or new singles. Here is a list of some of the songs on the Current’s official Halloween playlist for the spooky season.
1. “Monster Mash” by Bobby “Boris” Pickett | 1962
Monster Mash is one of the most classic Halloween party songs. This song will always be playing at a Halloween party and it radiates the main theme of Halloween. Bobby “Boris” Pickett was an American singer-songwriter and comedian. He will always be famous for performing this smash hit novelty song.
2. “Calling All the Monsters” by China Anne Mcclain | 2011
This song is used in a disney Halloween movie, “Girl vs Monster” and it is in an episode of the disney channel show “A.N.T Farm.” The song itself is famous amongst many people who love Halloween. The lyrics speak about monsters dancing and having a dance party. China Anne Mcclain is an American actress and singer who is most known for the disney channel show “A.N.T Farm.”
3. “I Got my Scream On” by China Anne Mcclain | 2012
This song was in an episode of the Disney Channel show “A.N.T Farm” and featured in many disney channel movies. It is not as famous as Mcclain’s other song, “Calling All the Monsters”, but for a Halloween party this is definitely on the list. The lyrics of the song talk about screaming in fear while you’re lost somewhere in the dark. The tempo for this song is a bit more fast paced and is reminiscent of EDM music.
4. “Thriller” by Michael Jackson | 1982
“Thriller” is one of the most popular songs to hear during the Halloween season. The music video itself is Halloween themed with its dancing zombies and horror scene. There was recently an animated short that came out on Netflix called “Sing: Thriller”. The “Sing!” movies always cover original songs, which is why the recent movie on Netflix has “Thriller” in the title. The movie is a short with the cover of “Thriller” by Michael Jackson. Michael Jackson was a famous American singer, songwriter, dancer and philanthropist.
5. “Ghostbusters” by Ray J. Parker | 1984
The “Ghostbusters” theme song is another iconic song. The theme song is not usually played for Hallloween parties, but you will hear it on a Halloween playlist. Ray J. Parker is an American musician, singer, songwriter and record producer. Parker wrote and performed the song for the “Ghostbusters” movie and also composed the theme music for the animated series “The Real Ghostbusters.”
6. “I Put a Spell on You” by John Debney | 2013
The song has had many different singers and adaptations to it, but the original writer and singer is Jay Hawkins. “Hocus Pocus” itself has always been a must watch with family and friends for Halloween. The version of the song from the movie was made by John Debney, an American composer and conductor who created multiple songs on the “Hocus Pocus” soundtrack.
7. “This is Halloween” by Marilyn Manson | 1993
The version of the song that is on the playlist is the one performed in “The Nightmare Before Christmas.” The song title speaks for itself as the main theme of the movie and holiday. “The Nightmare Before Christmas” was created by Tim Burton who is known for his many unique and Halloween-like movies. Marilyn Manson is an American rock band formed by the lead singer Marilyn Manson and guitarist Daisy Berkowitz.
8. “Spooky, Scary, Skeletons” by Andrew Gold | 1996
The Undead Tombstone remix of this song was released in 2019. This version gives the song a party and rave vibe. The original is great as well, but the remix has more of a dance energy to it. Andrew Gold was an American multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter and record producer who influenced much of the Los Angeles-dominated pop/soft rock sound in the 1970s.
9. “Monster High Fright Song” by Monster High | 2013
The “Monster High” theme song does not have an original artist. It was created and sung by the cast who write and sing the songs for “Monster High” movies and shows. While it is mainly a theme song for the “Monster High” show and movies, it fits the Halloween season with its lyrics and music.
10. “I’m in Love with a Monster” by Fifth Harmony | 2015
This song was first introduced in the movie “Hotel Transylvania 2” at the celebration scene towards the end. The lyrics and music really speak for itself on being a Halloween song. The song was performed by Fifth Harmony, but written by Harmony Samuels, Carmen Reece, Sarah Mancuso, Edgar Etienne and Ericka Coulter with production handled by Samuels. Fifth Harmony was an American girl group created after the show “The X Factor”.
