Hanah Kashmoola, International Studies major and Michael Gates, psychology major and treasurer for Psi Beta helped to clean up after the event at Oakmont of Carmichael Assisted living facility on October 20th. “I came here just to help… I did some work community back home where I lived,” said Kashmoola. “I am from Iraq, but I lived in Jordan. When I was in Jordan, I went to a private school, so we went to a lot of places to help people.”

Ike and Phyllis Von Warden tell their life story to Psi Beta president Xylina Catipon from where they met in seventh grade to their 65 years of marriage since after college. Ike was a journalism and mathematics student at south Dakota State University and then joined the U.S. Air Force as a pilot for 23 years. He has intriguing stories from combat and his time as a pilot for the Chinese Air Force at the begginig of the 70s by orders, for which he carries his “golden wings.” Phyllis is a retired elementary school teacher and enjoys students that volunteer there. According to Ike, he took his wife to many countries with him including Japan, Hong Kong… They have lived in California since late 70s.

Connie Drury, psychology and social sciences major with a management certificate and officer outreach coordinator for Psi Beta assists a resident of the Oakmont of Carmichael to dance at the songs of the band “Your musical Memories” on an event called Oktoberfest. Drury said that Psi Beta promotes community service at least ones a semester. “The chapter votes on the community service event and we get an opportunity to coordinate, volunteer and to serve,” Drury said. “It [Volunteering] is essentially an opportunity to grow professionally, be a service and get back to the Sacramento community.”
