Legislation is currently under review in the Senate Judiciary Committee that would prohibit children from attending a public or private institution without mandatory vaccinations in the state of California. The debate on mandatory vaccinations has rested as of late on individual rights vs. the public's health and safety.

American River College celebrates Earth Day with, among many other things, a paper mache tree located in the Learning Resource Center, for students to write down what they are doing to be friendly to the earth and taping them to the said tree. Outside the LRC were many activities for students with food, music and various booths encouraging conscious efforts to help out the environment.

In the library stands a special tree, which has a lot of meaning to it. American River College is giving students a chance to give back. This tree is meant to gain donations of gifts and clothing to the Sacramento Children's Home. More information about what can be done to bestow gifts is available at the front desk of the library.

Starbucks has started its holiday campaign, which is resulting in long lines. It has drinks themed to fit the holiday season as well as coffee mugs and Christmas tree ornaments for sale. Holiday themed drinks for sale include the Caramel Brulee Latte, Peppermint Mocha, Gingerbread Latte and the Eggnog Latte.
