American River College’s baseball team faced off against San Joaquin Delta in itsBig 8 conference opener on February 25, 2025. San Joaquin Delta was too much for ARC to handle with the final score ending in a 13-3 win for SJD.
ARC started the game strong with a homerun by center fielder Dylan Westbrook in the third inning. After the homerun, the ARC crowd and dugout were fired up and ready to push the team forward.
SJD started to get into a groove with a run in the fourth inning, bringing the game to 1-1 entering into the fifth inning. This gave SJD the confidence to keep on going in the later stages of the game.
With a momentum switch, SJD stunned ARC with five runs in the fifth inning, three runs in the eighth inning, and four runs in the ninth inning. All while stopping ARC from scoring on multiple occasions.
With the game at 13-1 in the bottom of the ninth, ARC would muster up a couple of consolation runs before the game ultimately ended.
ARC Pitcher, Mario Navero had his say on what went wrong in this game against SJD.
“We just had a lot of walks and just errors,” Navero said. “Hit the ball a little more, just get some more hits and we will be fine.”
This loss was ARC’s fifth loss of the season at home. The Beavers overall record falling to 7-7 and conference record now at 0-1.
