The American River College women’s basketball team found itself on the wrong end of a blowout game against Folsom Lake College on Feb. 15, with the final score seeing the FLC Falcons take a 92-56 victory against the Beavers.
Because it was the Beaver’s last home game of the season, ARC held a ceremony before the game to honor the team’s four sophomores. Guards Tamai Mancuso, Miracle Armstrong and Hailey Karpel, as well as forward Adriana Rubio Perez were all celebrated shortly before tip-off.
The game, however, did not go the way that the Beavers were hoping for, as it was all FLC from the first possession until the last.
The Falcons jumped out to a sizable lead early on, one which grew at a steady rate throughout the game. FLC were able to increase their advantage at the end of all four 10 minute quarters. The lead was 17 at the end of the first quarter, 20 by halftime, 35 after the third and 36 at the final whistle.
Despite the dominance of the Falcons, the star of the show was ARC guard Tamai Mancuso. Mancuso was the primary source of offense for the Beavers, scoring 41 of the team’s 56 points. Mancuso shot 12-22 from the field, and 16-23 from the free throw line.
On the side of the Falcons was a great team display of scoring 92 points. They were led in scoring by guard Gianna Darte, who ended with 23 points, and shot 7-13 from downtown. The team had three other players hit double digit scoring.
While the Falcons did have some noteworthy individual performances, another thing that stands out from the box score is how well the team shot from the field and from the three-point line.
FLC shot 48% in total, and an impressive 16-38 from long range, giving them a team percentage of 42.1%.
The ARC women’s basketball team finished off their season with another loss, losing on the road against the San Joaquin Delta College Mustangs by a score of 78-32 on Feb. 23.
