Men’s Sports
Baseball: In the final game of the season, the team lost at home 8-3 to division rival Diablo Valley College. The team finished with an overall record of 11-25 and 6-18 in conference.
Golf: Freshman Colten Passey will be competing for the individual state championships at the Rancho Canada Golf Club in Carmel, Calif., on May 13. The team finished in sixth place in the Big 8 conference this season.
Swimming: The men took ninth place at the state championships after scoring 193.5 points over the three days. Despite not winning an event, diver James Yokoyama had a strong performance for the men by claiming third place with 255.95 points.
Tennis: After winning 22 straight games, the men lost in the NorCal Championship game to Fresno City College. All six starting men made it to Ojai for the singles and doubles tournament. Adam Duong and Andrew Amor were eliminated in the round of 16 for singles. In doubles, they were eliminated in the quarterfinals.
Track & Field: The men are currently in second place with 11 points at the NorCal Championships. Will Reyes won the 10,000-meter race, beating the second place finisher by 35 seconds. The championships conclude May 11 at 12 p.m. at American River College. The California State Championships will be held on May 17 at 12 p.m. and May 18 at 10 a.m. at the College of San Mateo.
Women’s Sports
Softball: After starting off the season off by going 14-3, the team struggled throughout divisional play going 11-10 for an overall record of 25-13. With only three members of the team being sophomores (Karolanne Tipton, Kaycie Freymond, and Brandi Williams), the team looks to bring veteran leadership into 2014.
Swimming: The women finished in tenth place at the state championships, held at East Los Angeles College on April 25 through April 27. In the 400-yard freestyle group B finals, sophomores Nicole Grottkau and Marissa Renfro, along with freshmen Kristin Boston and Elise Whittal, won the event with a time of 3:40.17.
Track & Field: After the first weekend of the NorCal Championships, the women are in third place with 13 points. Sophomore Hannah Hardy won the heptathlon. The NorCal Championships concludes on May 11 at 12 p.m. at American River College. The California State Championships will be held on May 17 at 12 p.m. and May 18 at 10 a.m. at the College of San Mateo.
