The Club and Events Board will be hosting a club day on Thursday Oct. 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Student Center Pavilion.
The theme for the event will be “Geeks and Goths” and will seek to bring positivity and awareness to an anti-bullying campaign for students on campus.
The club day will seek to give clubs on campus a chance to open their doors to new members.
During the club day, CAEB members will be hosting a series of different venues that will include an open microphone for all musicians not associated with a record group, a fashion show, and a wide assortment of refreshments provided by Aramark on campus from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“The open mic. venue will be open to all artists, but it will be very malleable,” Jeremy Diefenbacher, CAEB president said. “Each artists will have 5 minutes to perform and profanity in lyrics will not be allowed,” Diefanbacher said.
“Club day is coming up and we are hoping to make this event kick ass,” Diefanbacher continued.
The categories for the fashion show will be Best Gothic Look, Spookiest Costume Contest, and Best Schoolboy/girl look. Winners will receive deluxe gift cards.
“Amongst other activities, there will be venues where students can get their hair sprayed different colors, get your nails painted festively and win prizes for participating in games,” said Director of Activities LeslieAnn Dameron.
CAEB members hope that Club Day will give a chance for clubs on campus to gain publicity and to hopefully get more students for their respective clubs.
“I’m looking forward to it,” says Biotech Club president Cassandra Kinsfather. “I’m looking forward to showcasing the Biotech Club to students who could possibly be interested in lab techniques and do experiments for fun.”
Other clubs scheduled to be at the event will be Phi Theta Kappa, Model United Nations, and Latino Unidas. The Theatre Arts Club will also be at Club Day promoting their Fall musical Young Frankenstein.
“We’re trying to get publicity for the clubs. We want to make sure that everything is open and that everyone can have equal access to the clubs,” said Diefenbacher.
