Over the weekend of March 7, some of the staff from the American River Current flew down to Long Beach to attend the 2025 Journalism Association of Community Colleges statewide spring conference. The staff returned decorated with awards showing off their journalistic excellence.
The staff earned the General Excellence award for Online publication. Editors Abigail Harless, Joshua Zezzo, and William Forseth won third place in the on-the-spot social media contest. Features and newsletter editor Khushi Salgia earned an honorable mention award for the on-the-spot opinion writing contest.
Zezzo also secured an honorable mention for his work on Beavers win ninth consecutive game after sweep of Modesto – The American River Current for the Photo Essay category.
The JACC is a non-profit organization that supports and encourages journalism students at community colleges. The conference allows students to learn from experienced journalists and share ideas and opinions with peers. The Current staff will return to JACC in the fall for the Northern California regional conference.
