The rebuilding effort for Davies Hall may receive funding this coming June as a bond that would fund projects that will be included as a part of the state’s budget, according to Katilyn Collignon, ARC’s public information officer.
“The bond that provides funding for emergency projects, such as Davies Hall, passed during the 2024 election, and legislation says that Davies should be a high priority for funding,” Collignon said in an email to the Current.
The closure of Davies Hall on September 8, 2023, was the result of the Division of State Architects recommending closing the building after inspections at other college campuses showed there was a structural integrity issue with buildings constructed with lift slabs like Davies Hall. A lift slab is a construction method in which concrete slabs would be formed and raised by hydraulic jacks to the preferred height.
To replace Davies Hall, a new portable village was to be constructed in time for the previous semester. Collignon has said the construction is still in early stages due to difficulties with connecting utilities and vendors. No dates have been given for the completion of the portables.
