The American River College Career Technical Education Building is set to be fully completed in March and make its grand opening on April 23, according to Gary Aguilar, dean of manufacturing, construction and transportation for ARC.
The building, which was originally set to open in the summer of 2024, has been postponed a few times due to construction not being finished in time, according to Kaitlyn Collignon, ARC’s public information officer.
“Construction delays are a huge variety of things,” Collignon said. “Just the little things from shipping and weather that impact and create delays.”
As of now, a large part of the construction is completed, according to Collignon.
Since the larger part of the construction is nearly complete, the HomeBase and lobby of the new building are currently open to students. Programs have also settled in the building including the Auto Technology and Welding programs just after having their previous respective buildings closed.
These two programs are currently offering courses that are now available for enrollment.
The IT and AV technology systems are still being arranged, which is hindering tech-based programs that require such tech from moving into the building. Programs include electronics technology, design technology, the design pub and electrician training, according to Aguilar.
“The spaces are done. We’re mostly just waiting for the computers to be set up and the data to be connected,” Aguilar said.
Aguilar added all systems should be set up and sound by March, allowing eager awaiting faculty to move in possibly as early as Spring, if not during the summer break.
The CTE building will have full operations in the Fall. They will begin offering all courses from the remaining programs that are currently still a work in progress according to Aguilar.
