American River College will host its bi-annual Club Day on Oct.16 in the STEM quad area, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., where clubs will showcase their clubs and all they have to offer.
According to Club and Events Board President Sapeidah Saeedi, there will be 26 tables present, including ones for Associated Student Body, Student Success Council, a voter’s registration table and a bracelet-making table. There are currently five empty tables left for other clubs to join the event, according to Saeedi.
“We chose Wednesday because we looked at some data and most of the classes in person were on Wednesday,” Saeedi says.
There will be 22 clubs present, including the Chess Club, Puente, American Medical Student Association and Women in STEM.
Another club that may also be present is the ARC Space and Aeronautics Club, according to Louisa Anderson, vice president of the Women in STEM club.
“ARCSA strives to inspire students to explore the wonders of space and aeronautics,” Anderson said.
The club meets every Monday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the STEM building, Room 108.
Anderson also said that Women in STEM give women in the field a community in a male dominated industry. They meet every Monday 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. and every Tuesday from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at the STEM HomeBase.
“We have a lot of people in our Discord, but we don’t have a lot of people showing up in person,” Anderson said.
American Medical Student Association president Stephanie Huerta expressed the same dilemma. AMSA strives to connect pre-med, dental and nursing students with professionals in their respective fields to provide them with a mentor. They meet every Friday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the STEM HomeBase as well.
“Before COVID, we used to have over 50 participants,” Huerta said. “We are trying to get back from all the damage COVID did so our members are currently only 10 to 15.”
According to Saeedi, 200 students are expected to be in attendance throughout the day. She added that there is a possibility of a second club day event in early December.
