ASB will continue meeting online during fall 2022 semester
ASB may begin meeting in-person in the spring of 2023
On Aug. 26, the American River College Associated Student Body held its first meeting of the fall semester via Zoom, and it is likely to stay that way.
According to Nicole Nugent, ASB newly-appointed senate president, ASB members will continue to meet online through the rest of the semester. However, there are talks of changes to come during the spring.
“We will likely meet in person next semester,” Nugent said. “We will keep everyone updated.”
Nugent is one of many new members and is enthusiastic about the future of ASB.
“I am confident and determined to fulfill my role as best as I can,” Nugent said to The Current in an email. “I am…committed to serving and understanding our student body population here at ARC.”
There was also talk of opportunities for students to get involved with the Discipline Appeals Committee, Nugent said.
“With this committee, we are looking for an additional four students to join,” Nugent said, “Would you consider joining? Pass the word!”
During the spring semester of 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic brought all in-person ASB meetings to a sudden halt. Since then, many student body operations and meetings were limited to an online environment.
Recently, ASB broke this streak by holding its “Week of Welcome” activities, which included an ice cream social, a silent disco and more.
Brett Sawyer, ARC’s student life supervisor, deemed their week of activities a success, though vendor issues did occur on Nacho Day, which resulted in the food running out.
“The silent disco was great, [some] people got nachos…everyone had fun,” Sawyer said during the meeting.
Regardless, the student body agreed that in-person activities helped reach out to students.
ASB meetings are held every Friday via Zoom, with agendas posted weekly on Igor.
