LRCCD offers foundation scholarships to all students
Students have until March 5 to earn up to $1,000
The Los Rios Community College District is offering multiple scholarships for students in the district, including American River College students.
According to Liz Starbuck, the scholarship coordinator of the LRCCD, the scholarships were granted to the district from donors to help make each student’s college experience better.
“Students can use the funds to pay for tuition, textbooks, school supplies and any other needs they have while in school,” Starbuck said in an email to the Current.
Starbuck says she wants to encourage students to apply as soon as possible. Students could earn up to $1,000 from the district that goes towards their tuition.
“The scholarships offered are based on a variety of criteria including major, number of units enrolled, GPA, and career goals,” Starbuck said. “The scholarships start at $500 and the average award is $1,000.”
The scholarships are made available from now until March 5. Students can apply for the scholarships on the Los Rios Colleges Foundation website here. Students will have to meet certain requirements such as a student ID number and the number of class units in order to receive the scholarship, according to Starbuck.
“Students must have a Los Rios student ID number and be currently enrolled in a minimum of six units and have completed a minimum of six units at the campus where they are applying,” Starbuck said.
Starbuck recommends that students complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid or the California Dream Act Application along with the other requirements. She also notes that students should have a letter of recommendation prepared in case the scholarship requires one.
“Students should complete either the FAFSA or the California Dream Act Application to increase the chances of receiving a scholarship,” Starbuck said. “Some foundation scholarships require a letter of recommendation so please carefully check the requirements for each scholarship you intend to apply for.”
Students could be eligible for multiple scholarships offered by the school, but they only have to submit one application, according to Starbuck. This allows for students to have the most opportunities to receive aid from the district as possible
“Students only need to submit one application to be matched to any of hundreds of scholarships for which you qualify,” Starbuck said.
