To ensure the safety of all faculty, students, and members of the community, American River College is requiring COVID-19 vaccinations for all people who access campus and district facilities by Oct. 1, according to a resolution released by the Los Rios Community College District Board of Trustees.

Students who showed proof of at least one vaccination dose by Sept. 1 will receive a $100 incentive. All students who provide proof of their full vaccination by Nov. 1 will receive an additional $100, according to the LRCCD resolution.

According to Gabe Ross, LRCCD’s associate vice chancellor of strategy and communications, the incentive was created to get more people vaccinated.

“The incentive of $100 for those who are fully vaccinated by Nov. 1 is designed to encourage students to get fully vaccinated,” Ross said in an email to the Current.

Those who received their vaccinations before the requirement was put into place are also eligible for the incentive, according to the LRCCD resolution.

According to the resolution, exemptions for the vaccine requirement will be limited and only available for people with certain medical conditions or serious religious beliefs.

Those with medical or religious exemptions must fill out a request form by Sept. 15 to make sure there’s time to review the exemptions before Oct. 1, which is the exemption deadline, according to the LRCCD resolution.

According to the resolution, payments will be issued shortly after the Nov. 1 deadline, and students who submit their vaccination status before the deadlines won’t need to take any action to ensure they receive their incentive.

All the funds will be directly deposited into students’ BankMobile accounts. If students don’t have a BankMobile account, the incentive will be mailed to the students, and those who will have it mailed must update their address in eServices, to ensure the students receive their incentive, according to the LRCCD resolution.
