It was revealed that the Student Senate for California Community Colleges passed a resolution that will make it a mandatory requirement for SSCCC senators to pass a “Yes Means Yes” training before being able to hold an elected seat at the last Associated Student Body Senate board meeting for the semester.
The resolution was created by LeslieAnn Dameron, who is the Clubs and Events Board student director of activities.
During the May 7 meeting, the board also voted to reward Joe Stanton, a senator for Lake Tahoe Community College and who is also a regional senator for the SSCCC, a gift card up to $300 for volunteering to speak at ASB meetings and help promote the March in March event.
“It is actually kind of inspiring to see someone who is a hundred miles away one way to not just come down here one time, not twice, but several times,” said Senate Director of Public Relations Cameron Weaver.
Two items were taken off of the agenda, despite being on their third reading at the joint budget meeting. One was a plan to supply hand sanitizers on campus, and another to install blue police boxes near areas that have a history of violent crime incidents.
“We have to work with faculty and maintenance and everyone else,” Dunning said. “We just couldn’t get enough information. I imagine it will be seen again.”
Student Director of Activities Garrett Kegel said that the board needs to find out if the hand sanitizers would be safe for everyone before deciding upon it.
ASB Senate was also introduced to its newest adviser, Juan Miguel Blanco during its board meeting.
Dunning said that she was proud of the work that the Senate had done in the previous two semesters.
“I know that we didn’t always agree, we’re should not always agree. That is what we’re here for, we bring different voices and different perspectives.
Dunning reminded the Senate that their term limits on the board do not end until June 30.
Dunning also said that the board will be giving out supplies for finals during the upcoming week.
Kegel, who was elected to be the upcoming ASB Senate president, was given the gavel by Dunning, so he could adjourn the meeting.

What is the ‘Yes means Yes’ training? What does it entail? It sounds interesting, and caused me to want to read the article. Why is it in the headline of the article if there is no description or expansive discussion of it in the article?
