Three members of the Associated Student Body Student Senate have confirmed that they are seeking higher office ASB during next month’s elections.
Garrett Kegel, Senate director of activities, will be running for ASB Student Senate president with Cameron Weaver, Senate director of public relations, as his vice presidential running mate in the upcoming general elections.
“I always wanted to help the school,” said Kegel. “This is just another avenue to explore.”
Added Kegel, “I’m definitely more soft spoken than Cameron, so I feel Cameron would definitely help me out with the extra bit of charisma that is needed.”
Weaver said that their strengths are better suited for the positions that they are running for.
“Garrett is a little more intelligible on situation with the bylaws, the senate constitution, and I’m a little more vocal,” said Weaver.
“We didn’t want to run in a position where we ran against each other…It wasn’t worth for me to see me or Garett lose that opportunity to run for positions that are available in the midst of that.”
Sen. Samuel Kinsey said to the Current that he is hoping to run for ASB Student Senate vice president.
“I think it’s my destiny, it’s my time, to keep moving up,” said Kinsey. “I think vice president would be great for me just because I’m aggressive, I know I’m a born leader, and I can lead others.”
Sen. Jose Garcia said that he’s not sure if he’s going to be running for office this semester after facing personal problems this semester.
Garcia had no comment about what his personal problems were.
Tamara Dunning, who is acting as ASB Student Senate president, said that she has no comment because she is on the committee that oversees the elections.
Jorge Riley, who was elected ASB student senate president over Dunning last fall by a margin of 62 votes, but whose election was invalidated for reasons the administration and ASB have not disclosed, said that he’s not going to be running for the upcoming general election.
“However, I am trying to submit a recall petition for the acting Student Senate president (Tamara Dunning) and CAEB president (Jeremy Diefenbacher). What my intention is that we can recall them, and when we have the general elections those people who get elected in those positions will assume those positions immediately,” said Riley.

Just what we need–another fundamentalist trying to settle a grudge rather than contribute to the well-being of the campus.
