Lindsie Kotcher (right), a full time employee of the Center for Leadership and Development as a Student Support Assistant for Student Life, is seen here leading the Women’s March around the American River College main campus on March 26, 2024. Supporters came out in droves with signs and banners to express their support for women to have free agency over their own bodies.

Kotcher brought the women’s marches to the campus this year in dedication to the woman leaders of ARC, both among the faculty and the student body.

“There’s usually a women’s march between February and March, nationally.” Kotcher said. “I thought it would be cool to bring it to American River College.” (Photo by William Forseth)

The Indigenous Peoples Day march made its way around the American River College campus on Oct. 9. Bear Jackson, elder of the Shoshone tribe of western Nevada, made it a priority to be at the march.

“I took the time off work to share songs, words, dance and to watch our future leaders,” Jackson said. “You must have prayer and singing, it’s what makes us who we are. It’s important to teach it to our youth.”
