At the start of 2025, two romance book series that are very well known throughout the BookTok, the book reading community on TikTok where users share their love for books through videos, have been confirmed to develop film adaptations.
The two famous series that were confirmed by the authors on having film adaptations are the Twisted series by Ana Huang and the Empyrean series by Rebecca Yarros.
The Twisted series by Huang was first rumored to have a film adaptation on BookTok in 2024. Many fans were begging for a film adaptation and they were also making videos of their own fan casts for the characters of the series.
Huang confirmed the news on her Instagram with a screenshot from Variety on Jan. 9, announcing her book series will become a film adaptation.
“It’s the new year, which means I can FINALLY announce some big news: Netflix is developing the Twisted series into a TV show!,” Huang said in the caption on her Instagram post.
According to the bio on her website, Anahuang.com, Huang is a New York Times, Sunday Times, Amazon and USA Today bestselling author.
The first book of the Twisted series, “Twisted Love,” was published in 2021. “Twisted Love” was the book that gave Huang her big break.
The Twisted series is a romance series that follows the stories of four best friends who each have their own romance with twists and love.
Many fans have been commenting on how excited they are with the news of her series becoming a TV show that Netflix will be working on.
“I cannot even tell you the gasp I just gasped at this, SO EXCITED!!!!!!,” @chloeroles said on Huang’s Instagram post on Jan. 9.
Though the news has been exciting to fans, some have expressed their skepticism hoping the film adaptations live up to the quality of their favorite book series.

Fans of the Twisted series have been excited since the confirmation of the book series’ film adaptation, but they’re not the only fans who will have been waiting for more news on their favorite book series’ film adaptation.
The Empyrean series by Yarros was confirmed to have a film adaptation back in 2023. Yarros announced her series being developed by Amazon MGM Studios on Oct. 30, 2023.
Since the announcement, the newest piece of news on this series’ film adaptation was posted by Deadline.com on Jan. 21.
According to Deadline.com, the show remains in the early stages of development, but progress has been made since the announcement of the adaptation.
“Fourth Wing” is the book that made the Empyrean series so popular. The book has gained more popularity at the start of this year due to the fact that the fans have still been commenting non-stop on Yarros’ announcement post from 2023.

There are some fans of this series that have been trying their best to express their opinions on the casting that they’d like for the main characters of “Fourth Wing”.
“I never thought of Mackenzie Foy for the role, but I think she fits our Violence perfectly!!!” @shaninagans_ said on a TikTok posted by @britandco.
According to Rebeccayarros.com, Yarros is a No. 1 New York Times best-selling author who is best known for the Empyrean fantasy series. “Fourth Wing”, the first book of the Empyrean series, was first published in 2023.
The Empyrean series is a fantasy, romance series that focuses on a world of dragon riders and war. The story starts with the main character Violet Sorrengail who is forced to be trained as a dragon rider.
The Empyrean series is not yet finished as the third book of the series has recently been published this year. The series is said to finish with five books in total.
Fans have been doing re-reads of their favorite books as they wait for the film adaptations to update them with more news. The Empyrean series is not yet finished, but fans have been constantly reading the books once they are published.
As for the Twisted series, fans have also been re-reading with excitement of the news posted this year. The Twisted series has four books in total that have all been published since 2021-2022.
There has not been any new information yet from both Huang and Yarros on the casting or filming, but both authors are sure to update their fans soon.
