Now you all may be asking about “It’s a Wonderful Life” or “Frosty the Snowman,” those are classics. We wanted to take a broader look at the wonderful world of Christmas movies.
Everyone has their favorite, their worst and the one movie that has stolen the last 90 minutes of your life that you will never get back.
We are going to look at the five best Christmas movies and worst Christmas movies and maybe you can help the debate over which is which.
Happy Holidays.
Best Christmas movies
- “Rudolf the Rednosed Reindeer”; This movie was released Dec. 6, 1964. For 58 years, kids have sung about the most famous reindeer of all.
- “Die Hard”; Now all you John McClane fans know that this movie was released July 22, 1988. For almost 34 years, it has been debated whether or not this is a Christmas movie. It is still a fan favorite to watch during the holidays.
- “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation”; This movie was released in 1989. Chevy Chase made a whole series of movies about vacations bringing joy and laughter. This movie takes all the holiday traditions to the next level. If you want a laugh, this is it.
- “Gremlins”; Gizmo was introduced to the world in 1984. For all you horror movies fans this one’s for you. You get a dose of Christmas with a little fear added in for good holiday joy.
- “Office Christmas Party”; Jason Bateman introduces us to the ultimate Christmas party in 2016. Now for everyone that is forced into these company parties, imagine if your party was like this. We all would want to go.
Worst Christmas movies
- “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer”; Now grandma was run over in 2000. A whole generation of kids grew up singing how their grandma was run over instead of Rudolph. Not a very funny movie.
- “Jingle All the Way”; Arnold Schwarzenegger introduced us to turbo-man in 1996. This is meant to be an action packed movie with childhood joy. It misses the mark and it just comes across as what not to do as a dad.
- “Christmas with the Kranks”; Tim Allen gave this performance in 2004. Normally Allen is funny, but this movie just leaves you frustrated at how ridiculous the movie is.
- “Krampus”; A horror Christmas movie that was released in 2015. The idea is to be scary and make it about Christmas. Just because you throw Christmas decorations in a movie and add evil does mean it’s a good movie.
- “The Night Before”; Seth Rogen brought the supposed party in 2015. This is meant to make you in the mood to party, but just because it has a great cast does mean it’s something to watch.

You may say there’s nothing good about Grandma (the movie,) but as for me and my family, we believe.
