Many of us have been there: It’s 1 a.m. and you’re with a group of friends doing recreational activities like playing “Cards Against Humanity” or just talking. Hunger comes at you like a demon from the depths of a world renowned for famine, and a bag of Goldfish crackers isn’t going to cut it. You need something substantial in your stomach.
Jack in the Box has created a solution to this specific late-night problem. This isn’t the first time the restaurant has marketed to this target audience. You’ll notice an ad for the current line of Jack’s Munchie Meals is very similar to an ad from years ago promoting a deal for one dollar double tacos.
The Munchie Meal is your choice of entree with a drink, two tacos, and a special side. There is a burger topped with hash browns and an egg for “when it’s so late you don’t know whether it’s dinner or breakfast” according to the company’s website; a burger stacked with grilled cheese sandwiches as buns; and nuggets covered in cheese, ranch and bacon. All are viable options, but for this review the exploding cheesy chicken sandwich was tested.
Take a piece of breaded chicken, put mozzarella sticks on top, wrap it in some lettuce, dip the whole thing in a fondue-esque cheese sauce and put it between two buns. What you end up with is the most delicious food ever to be passed from drive-thru window to car. That isn’t even the whole deal though; there are still tacos, a drink and “halfsies.”
The best way to describe halfsies is “interracial French fries.” You have a combination of seasoned curly fries in the same box as regular, run-of-the-mill salted fries. I would be stoked just to have curly fries, but the mixture has this sort of novelty that adds to the allure of the whole meal.
It costs $6.51 with sales tax and is an excellent amount of food. It comes in a nice, self-contained box, and coupled with the possibility that you could drive up in pajamas at 3 a.m., I would recommend this deal for anyone with spare change in the glove compartment and a late night craving for something drenched in cheese.
