American River College’s Production of “The Three Musketeers” is impressive. The show has many unique aspects that make it worth seeing for every demographic. With all of the professionally choreographed fight scenes, some plot twists and turns, and plenty of comedy in the middle, I’d recommend people to see this show at least once before its run ends May 5.
The most impressive aspect of “The Three Musketeers” is the set design. The three turntables work in unison to create a different set combination for each scene. There are at least a dozen different set combinations made by rotating the center turntable to a different angle.
There are many phases of this production that make it exceptional, but the aspect that stands apart most is the narrative device. The story uses Alexandre Dumas, the author of the original work of “The Three Musketeers,” to freeze everything and interact with the characters in his story, adjusting the outcome of situations. It’s a trope I haven’t seen anywhere since Larry Gelbart’s “City of Angels.”
The show is fairly long, but well paced with action sequences and jokes, so it doesn’t drag. If you are looking for an evening of entertainment consisting of action, drama, and some comedy, go see ARC’s “The Three Musketeers” before their closing matinee on May 5.
