The American River College Men’s Tennis team delivered a strategic performance on March 4, winning all nine matches against Diablo Valley College. The victory was marked by dominant wins in both doubles and singles, showcasing the team’s strength and preparation for the rest of the season.
Coach Bo Jabery Madison shared insights into the team’s strategy, considering the match against Diablo Valley as a valuable opportunity to rotate players into the lineup, especially those who don’t normally have a chance to play.
“It was a good chance for our guys to step up and gain experience,” Madison said. “We played some guys out of their usual spots, and it was a good way to see how well our depth performs in a match like this.”
In singles, one of the teams won 6-1, 6-0, a staggering one-sided score highlighting the strength of ARC’s roster.
“It’s a great result for our team and shows just how deep we are,” the coach added. “These types of matches help demonstrate our strength, not just at the top, but across the entire team.”
ARC is now looking forward to its next matches scheduled for the following week where they face their toughest challenge yet where they take on Modesto in a conference match. The team will also go against William Jessup, an NCAA Division II team they’ve historically beaten over the past several years.
In the coming weeks, ARC will also travel to Fresno to take on both Fresno City and Fresno Pacific, one of the top NCAA Division II teams in the country. Madison shared the importance of playing against such competitive teams.
“We don’t get the best competition in Northern California, but matches like the ones we have coming up are great for our players,” Madison said, “They provide a real challenge and offer exposure for potential scholarships and roster spots at four-year universities.”
With a solid offseason of preparation behind them, Madison says that ARC is up for success.
“Our guys are extremely fit, and they’ve played a lot of matches. We’re ready for the challenges ahead,” Madison said.
